Welcome to my new website. My name is Sam Harris and I am a licensed Realtor. I am really hoping that this website/blog can be developed into a tool for you in all things real estate. I am hoping to share what I believe to be educational posts with you in a fashion that will assist you in your real estate dealings.
[I am hoping to develop some more features like a FAQ page and a portfolio of past and current listings. Anything that you think will be helpful or interesting, please let me know and I will be glad to consider it.]
When ever I think about real estate (RE), there is so much involved, it is hard to figure out where to start.
Lets start with some basics, hopefully it won’t be too boring for you.
RE as defined by Investopedia: “Real estate is property comprised of land and the buildings on it, (etc).”
Whenever someone asks me what I do for a living I answer Real Estate. But that is so broad. Usually, you can tell if someone else is involved in the industry if they follow up that question with “What do you do in Real Estate?” And that is the question that will really tell you about me and my profession.
RE can be broken up into many categories, the first one I will start with are usage. You have Commercial, Industrial, Specialized and Residential, the last being the one of most concern to the typical person. Commercial includes storefronts, office space, possibly warehouses. Industrial would include manufacturing, farms, and mines. Specialized can refer to Hospitals, Government Buildings, Prayer Halls and miscellaneous. And finally, we get to residential which can include any building that will be used for living quarters, including single families, multi-families, condominiums and co-ops.
Now obviously, all these categories have their own sub-categories and components, and your needs the RE market should determine the RE professional you work with.
For example, if you are looking for a warehouse, don’t rely on someone who is involved in residential. He may have some contacts in the commercial RE space, but the nature of the business is so different that he may not be well enough informed regarding commercial mortgages, building codes and the like. And this is true when you break down any of the categories even further. Lets say you are looking for someone to help you rent out an apartment. Do you want to work with someone who primarily does residential Rentals or Sales? Each aspect of RE comes with different needs, experiences, and concurrently different professional who can assist you.
So going back to “What do I do in Real Estate?”
I focus on Residential RE Sales, specializing, in end-user or owner occupied homes. Basically, I help potential buyers and sellers through the difficult and stressful process of buying or selling a home.
Based on many conversations I have had with potential buyers and sellers over the years, I find that each person has their own story, their own financial situation, and their own specific needs. In order for me to best assist my buyers and sellers, I try to get as best an understanding as possible of their story, so that I can truly advise and service them accordingly.
When looking into purchasing and selling a home, there are many things that you will need to learn about: Mortgages, Attorneys/Contracts, Home Inspections, Appraisals and the list will keep on going. Hopefully, I will be highlighting each one of these in a separate post as time goes on. In the meantime, get on Google, do some research on any questions you may have and if you need any help, always remember that I am a phone call away.
Till next time.
